In Picts and Martyrs there are two pictures of Timothy wearing a hat. In the picture of the partners setting out for the mine (page 303 in the Red Fox edition) he is in the foreground wearing a high crowned, wide brimmed hat with a band. The crown of the hat is battered and the brim sags.
There is also a picture of him working with Dick on the Houseboat wearing what appears to be the same hat.
When he meets Dot and Dick near the start of P&M he is wearing a tweed hat. Could the hats in the pictures be tweed? I think it unlikely that tweed would be used for that style, and would a tweed hat have a band?
I think Timothy was a man who wore many hats.
