Mrs Blackett is “Molly” in the names from the box at the top of the Matterhorn in 1901 (SD). But the GA starts the testimonial letter at the end of PM (ch 30) “My dear Mary”.

When Jim is comforting her (SD ch 17 page 222) he uses their private name “Mops”. So is Mary her baptised name, and both Molly and Mops are private names (like Nancy?).

PS: I think a discussion of names & nicknames has disappeared into the archives!

PS: Why does Peggy who is called Peggy in SA & SD (even by natives)acquire the name of Margaret from the GA in PM?
