Some background - I asked Ed to do this search as it seemd to me that there was a reference to Berlin as one of the places through which Ted Walker had travelled. This makes the Trans-Siberian look the most likely route. If anyone knew about the practicalities of a British citizen (even a member of the armed forces) travelling across Russia, I suspect that AR was the person.
