I clearly recall when a child in Warwickshire, that my father had to drive with the front door of our little Morris open so that he could look down at the road to see the white dashes going by. Nothing could be seen past the radiator. The car's radiator had to be covered with an army greatcoat to prevent the engine freezing while we drove! Yes, I remember some very thick fogs! I contrast that with a fog which occurred here in Melbourne during this last winter. There was about one-and-a-half miles visibility and everyone was amazed by its density!
