Boaty pulleys are called blocks, and these blocks/pulleys are held together by chocks/cheeks which were/are pieces of material - from wood to stainless steel. Rope/line is fed through/reeved these blocks and then around/over other blocks to make a block and tackle, providing a mechanical advantage, which can be used to pull things together when one pulls on the end of the rope. When both ends of the block and tackle are pulled together all the way, it is said that they are chockablock/cheek to block. Or something like that. When one knows all this, one is said to know the ropes. Does this qualify me to contribute to next years's AMAZON PUBLICATIONS publication?
