"Cheek to block" I haven't heard of, but another synonym for "chockablock" is "two-blocks." (I have an idea that AR uses this somewhere, but I'm by no means sure about it.) But the use of "two-blocks" is confined to this usage only (ie all the line being pulled through a tackle, causing the blocks to be jammed together,) while "chockablock" now has the wider general use mentioned, of there being absolutely no further room -- not only for movement of blocks in a tackle, but for anything else.

(PS And for the less-nautical/maritime among us, "tackle" is rightly pronounces tayckle," by the way.)
