That the Swallows appreciated the delights in sailing is
hardly in doubt. So maybe Roger was perhaps the first in
the ship to suggest going to the oars when the wind is
slacking, but the joy of sailing is shared across the
entire crew, and became rather catching to those of us
that were privileged to "sail" with them. It was an infection
that as for myself bore fruit in that I finally purchased
a four meter catamarin, and with no sailing instruction
(other than Ransome) rigged it and thoroughly enjoyed the
sailing experience, never once turning that thing over.

However, there were others that expressed their delights
in other than sailing. There is one place where it is
stated that "onion is the thing". That was told to the D's
by Jacky as being the opinion of his mother, but then,
they were discussing the best way of cooking a rabbit.
But that is an entirely different category of interests.

As for us, perhaps we can say that our interest in all
things Ransome "is the thing" for us.
