Just under a year ago, while on Thanksgiving holiday on Cape Cod, I bought a copy of Swallows and Amazons. I had never heard of the series before, but, based on the back cover, felt that is deserved a chance. Since then I have read up through and including Missee Lee (Godine has not yet published PM or GN?)and wonder, could this happen today?

I believe that here in the US at least, yes it could and yes it does. Captain Flint made a comment in WH to the effect that nowadays somebody owns everthing (land). While so very true, here in the states, trespassing on vacant land is often forgiven/overlooked for children.

I know that my children will have these adventures. We live in a rod and gun club with a small lake and 200 acres of woods. I expect that my children and their friends will spend many happy hours camping in the woods and sailing on the lake. As they grow older, these adventures will continue to the nearby National Park for river trips and overnight hiking trips.

For all the obvisious reasons, I only hope that the same holds true elsewhere for others.
