I have noticed one possible example, in WDMTGTS. This is set in 1931
or 1932 (depending on whether one calculates from the 1929 date in S&A
or the 1931 dates in Swallowdale), but was actually written in 1937
when the German government was behaving nastily at home and abroad.
The Goblin passes a German liner in the North Sea, in the Woolworth
plate incident, and (though I forget the details and don't have the
book to hand) one gets the impression that the ship is run by
aggressive boors.
