As you went down the list, stating the accomplishments of the various members of the two genders, it occurred to me that DICK on two occasions had to do the same sort of thing. In PP, lost in the Old Level, he took the string and went away into the dark to explore the several tunnels opening into that one place where the others waited. And in WH, DICK again to the "Alpine Rope" and used it in the same way he used that string in the cave, to go off into the fog of the snowstorm into several directions to see if he could find anything meaningful. Both were exploring very much in the dark, or at least, with very limited visibility. Both time, he did find some indication as to which direction they all were to go.
