Thank you both Ed and Adam for detailing the seemingly untold and also the dangerous pieces of S&A life.

There are obviously undocumented periods about their fictional lives. It may well be that AR had thought about them but did not choose to write about them.
Although Ed wishes, for good reasons, that CITN had been finished, I wonder if it would have made a good book. When GN was written, it was 4 years since he last wrote a novel (ML). I feel that it was written in a depressing time for Britain in the just post war period. Conditions for the civilian population were worse than in war time with an increase in food rationing and the need to rebuild without the combining impetus of war.
I do feel with a 4 year gap, AR had lost the impetus and enthusiasm for writing longer books. He was looking for sustaining plots and may have been better off considering short stories about the S&A.
