There's another Victoria (a town only, not a State) in British Columbia, John. This is just about close enough to the good ol' US of A that your average Yank recognises its existence. This is the main reason, I think, why we Aussie Victorians feel the need to define ourselves as such.
(Even Victoria-in-Australia doesn't mean anything to most Yanks, they're far too parochial. Australia -- is that that little town in Europe somewhere near Germany where our boys fought during the war?)
