AR (1897-1901) and PGW (1894-1900) would have been contemporaries at different public schools Rugby and Dulwich. I suspect they would have had different lives with PGW being a renowned classicist and sportsman – he played for the rugby 1st XV and the cricket 1st XI; whereas AR because of his eyesight problems did less well.
PGW retained close contacts with Dulwich throughout his life attending Old Alleynian (as the Dulwich old boys are called) reunions in New York up to his death. I do not know of AR attending any Old Rugbeian events – perhaps some further research is needed; although many having left school do not want to know about it again.

I do not recall any mention of AR in PGW’s official biography, although it is sometime since I read it and it might well be a point a biographer would miss. They certainly knew of and, I think, admired each others work.
