I suspect so too. I don't now how many hundreds of miles I've ridden on a pushbike without a helmet, or that I've kayaked or sailed without a life-belt (as I still do.) All without harm except once as a teenager when I was in hospital overnight for observation after the chain came off my bike and I deliberately braked with a foot on the wheel.... (And I put that down to lack of experience at the time.)
I really do think that we're sometimes too protective of our kids, and that a return to the freedom of the AR era is in order.
