The Ransomes sailed from Salford Docks on Jan 9th 1932. Ransome noted that he had bought a copy of "The Channel Pilot' that he thought would be useful. It was not until late April that he sailed up the Channel.
Meanwhile just before he left for Aleppo, he had written around 20 pages that he crossed out in the daily record of completed pages. I believe these pages were reproduced in "Arthur Ransome and Captain Flint's Trunk" as "Their Own Story".
PD was started on Feb. 5th and he had written 117 pages by the end of the month.
I found practically no working notes for PD, but believe it likely that "Wild Cat's" diversion to Cowes was based entirely on the Pilot Book, as his steamer was unlikely to go inside the Wight.
