Very many thanks for these, Andy. Your Trout Tarn is most convincing. Also, what we can see of Swallowdale looks pretty realistic too -- a steep-sided gully with a nearly-flat floor in both directions.

I can easily find Burnmoor Tarn on Google Earth, but it's not so easy to identify the gully from the air. However, with 'Striding Edge's' description of the peaks behind the tarn I hope I'll be able to work it out eventually. If/when I do I'll post a picture.
