If you can find a drill bit intended for drilling through printed circuit boards you will find that it has a serrated shaft that allows it to be used as a tiny milling cutter. They are intended to cut a composite of resin and glass fibre so plain resin or resin with rock-dust filler should be no problem. With a jig that allows the hull to slide along a straight-edge you should be able to cut a slot the width of the drill and up to half an inch deep. PC fabricators regularly throw out drills too blunt to cut PC board but ideal for this job.
