If you flick through Ransome Under Sail (p 17) you will find a sketch of Swallow (the first) and Jamrach copied from Pauline Marshall'sbook.
In the autobiography, Ransome describes Jamrach as a half-decked sloop, yet from her illustration the boat was a yawl. Could the young Ransome handle a yawl, I wonder?
Swallow and Jamrach were built pre 1886
jamrach had new sails 1890 and again in 1902.There is no more about Jamrach after 1913 and in 1924 the Smiths bought Beetle.
