Transliterating from a non-Roman alphabet is always open to debate. Another Nepalese alternative is Kathmandu/Katmandu (the former is preferred by purists). Transliterating from non-alphabetic scripts is even more fun. I've never really understood why we let the Chinese tell us we have to write "Beijing" instead of the "Peking" (or "Pekin") we old fogies were brought up with. Should we instruct the French to stop writing "Londres"?

Anyway, I have to go feed the Beijingese.
