There is a two-tier local government system. The upper tier is
Cumbria County Council and the whole of the Lake District, and more,
falls within its area. Its website is

http://www.cumbria.gov.uk

Within Cumbria there are six district councils. Parts of the Lake District fall within four of them.

The areas most relevant to the AR stories come under South Lakeland
District Council. Different information sources give different
addresses for its website, and in a few minutes of trying I haven't
found one that works!

The far SW and W part of the LD comes under Copeland Borough Council,
http://www.copelandbc.gov.uk

The NW part of the LD comes under Allerdale District Council,
http://www.allerdale.gov.uk

The NE part of the LD comes under Eden District Council,
http://www.eden.gov.uk
