Well said, Andy - the 'sisterhookers' strike back! Actually I just can't lay my hands on my 1930 Bradshaw at the moment . . .
But I can tell Andrew Craig-Bennett that he is wrong about BR retaining crimson lake livery on their carriages. The first BR carriage livery (for all regions) was 'rhubarb and custard' - a sort of orange-red below the window line and cream above. BR went back to regional variations in the 1960s - crimson for LMR, chocolate and cream for WR, green for SR etc. Are all you sailing types enjoying this? :-)
