I wonder about the early death theory. Nancy is so effortlessly nautically correct; did she learn this from CF her father, or someone else? John, by contrast is always worrying about getting things right.
CF seems very relaxed about matters nautical, more 'a pull that string' man than 'a mouse that sisterhook' stickler. So could her father have taught Nancy to sail? Perhaps he died only a few years before SA.
