I was going to add for American readers that British "corned beef" in cans is nothing like American deli style corned beef as in "corned beef on rye" and that the latter is in my opinion a far superior product. But Jonathon's post suggests that the canned variety is known in America too. Does your use of the phrase "corned beef hash" suggest that it comes complete with potatoes and gravy/sauce?
British style corned beef isn't that bad. When I open a tin and make corned beef hash I generally enjoy it, I just don't feel very inspired to do so very often, even on camping trips. Corned beef and pickle sandwiches are a staple in butty shops in this part of England, again quite pleasant for a change but not very exciting.
As for why the S&As called corned beef "pemmican", I'm sure Roger would have explained that it's because it comes in a can.
Force, by the way, is like weetabix in configured as corn flakes with a slight malty flavour. I like it.
