During our trip to the Lake District this summer, some of the people I spoke to in Windermere and Coniston had what I believe was the Cumbrian accent, so I came across it in reverse, so to speak. Having become familiar with that accent from the books, I now heard it for the first time and immediately recognized it. There were the people straight of of the stories speaking just the way I had imagined it. We made sure the people we spoke to were residents: walking a dog, carrying a shopping basket, etc. AR must have done a good job at recording the speech because it really was familiar to me.
