Nursery rhymes do have some rather brutal lines in them. In "Little Red Riding Hood", the wolf ATE up the Grandmother, and planned to eat Little Red Riding Hood. "Such big teeth you have." "The better to eat you with!"

Then with "Mary had a little lamb" there is a version where it was a goat instead, and it ate dynamite, then rubbed up against poor Mary's side. "A sudden flash of girl and goat, and Mary was no more."

I am sure if one goes through memories of one's childhood, other rather macabre tales can come out.

Young people today certainly have exposure to such almost every time they sit before the TV.
