I disagree, while I always enjoy The Big Six fir me it missess out some key S&A things. Firstly no Swallows or Amazons, although the D's and the CC are good characters the S&As were my 'first love' as it were and are central to my enjoyment of the books. Secondly there is no camping, this again is a common theme in most of the books. Thirdly there are too many natives, most of the other books are about what the children get up to without native pressures, The Big Six is one long episode of 'native trouble'. Finally - the boats are secondry to the plot, I know this is also the case in Pigeon Post (one of my favorites)but in The big Six they are right next to the water but seem to use their boats as forms of transport rather than sources of adventure.

Anyway thats just my opinion. It is I think a non-typical book so there will always be those who like it beter than the 'norm', and others who prefer the 'norm'.

Regards,
Phil
