I'd back that unreservedly. Driving here seems to cause terrible apprehension, but if you've ever driven down the East bank of the Hudson opposite West Point, or inland from Muirwoods, North of San Francisco, then the lake district is no more difficult. And you'll probably be in a much smaller car, which makes it easy to avoid those dreadful kerbs. Wherever they might be...

Yes, gas is two and a half times the price. But that's why we mostly don't drive gas guzzlers, and anyway distances are smaller. Comfort yourself that Brit drivers do far less damage to the world than those driving in America.
