Yes, I agree with all of you who have the above as their favourite. It is just beautiful and a good example of Ransome's descriptions.

This issue very often comes up among us Ransome admirers here, and there are roughly three categories, 1) Good description 2) Good humour (often spoken by Roger) 3) May be overseen by young readers but profound especially for grown-up readers.

I have one from 3) above from Missee Lee, and unfortunately I do not have the English copy, but in translation it was something like this, where Captain Flint refers to Miss Lee:

"Her job is rather unusual, but she knows how to do it. If one has something to do, and knows how to do it, it is one of the best thing in the world."

Then comes "If only she can give up her longing for Cambridge...", this part also comes to me....
