The starboard garboard is a boatbuilder's term, rather than a sailor's term. To paraphrase Jerome K Jerome (on the subject of bicycles). There are two pass-times which can be enjoyed with boats. One is to sail them the other is to build/repair them. Although boat-building has much to commend it, not least that, it can be done inside, I prefer to sail them. And so do I.
