Was it not Ransome who said his three favourite past times were "sailing, fishing and hanging about in the tackle shop and only the last could be done out of the weather."

I love to sail, but to sail one has to have a boat. I can pay about $13,000 and buy one, or spend about 1000 and build one. First I build, then I sail. I do not have 13,000 but I do want a boat.

And with my own boat, built with loving hands - the mistakes are mine. It is more fun than drinking.

And yes, starboard garboard is very funny. Just try saying it fast to your wife. "Quick darling! Grab the stem end of the starboard garboard and stop it falling." Anne said I made a whole of lot of sense, and was concerned that I had the glue on the boat before I checked that she was at a free point in her sewing.

In spite of all the adversity - I have 33% of the planks on my boat. And what would you lot do if I was not building the Mary Anne - we would be talking about - radio masts in England in the 1930's. Just out of interest did the British government try and disguise the masts?
