Indeed it would, but that would mean the timbers drying out completely during winter. The craft would then have to be immersed every Spring, to make her watertight again. As I understand it (and I stress I am not an expert in these matters) this would, over the years, impose a strain on the hull. In fact, this is exactly what happened to Mavis/Amazon, with the result that she is now just an indoor static exhibit. It may be possible nowadays to 'treat' the timbers of the hull so that this did not happen, but then, bang goes authenticity . . .

Right then, JMN, 5,000 quids' worth of Museum Exhibit - your call.
