I agree, I think (it's getting late). I went through a mental tick list before replying to Dan's question.
It was worry about (3) that prompted the rather OTT health warning. And it was worry about being OTT that prompted the subsequent post about the fieldguide which will give Dan the necessary information so that he can decide for himself.
Nanny state? It's partly a state of mind, partly the efforts of our rule-loving bureaucrats,* and partly our own fear of being held liable.
