Regarding the novels set in The Broads, I would tend to echo
Dave's sentiments.
I was giving this some thought this morning. I've recently reread
"Coot Club" and am right now working through "The Big Six", and am
wondering why I don't care for it as much as the others.
Perhaps part is that it's not so much an adventure novel, but a
mystery, and as I know what's going to happen, it's not as gripping.
Perhaps also, it's a mystery that appeals more to children than
to adults. I was just thinking that I find it frustrating how the
adults prejudge the boys as guilty, so much that I almost find it
painfull to read at times.
Perhaps it is that as an adult, I know that I would handle these
situations (in CC and B6) very differently. Whereas when I read
the other "adventure" novels, I just immerse myself in the fun.
Just my mid-afternoon musings.
