"Second point; many years ago Pauline Marshall was sailing Mavis on Coniston Water. The exact details are not known but a person with her drowned because Mavis turned over. Whether Mavis capsized or turned turtle I do not know, but the person who drowned was, I believe, a non-swimmer. Sailing for non-sailers is dangerous and should be undertaken with great care."..............

Pauline related this incident to me with more detail..she was persuaded to take out a small group who claimed to have sailing experience but in fact turned out to be complete novices. The capsize occured because one of them grabbed the boom as it came across during a gybing maneuvere.
Pauline is in fact a very skilled sailor qualified to RYA Instructor standard and this incident was in no way her fault.
