The following document was forwarded to Anne and I this morning. It details Cationa's start in life in China.

The Chinese one child policy has some side effects that are not necessarily pleasant. I consider this is relevant to this Tarboard as she is now a member of the Board.

It is not our intention to share this story with Catriona for a long time.

Growth Report on Jiang Xinci (61)
Jiang Xinci, female, was found abandoned in a dumpcart before the gate of Red/Green Lights Automobile Repair Factory, San Fang Lane, Jiangyin on Feb.26th, 2005. She was sent into our institute by San Fang Lane Police Station. We named her Jiang Xinci. Jiang stands for Jiangyin. Xin means toilsome and Ci means kindly. Our doctor estimated her DOB to be Feb.25th, 2005.

When she was sent here, she was only one day old. Her head size was 10.44inches, chest size was 9.06 inches, height was 16.15 inches and weight was 2.64 lbs. Her whole body was cold and skin was in livid purple. Her body temperature did not increase, her skin was flimsy, and she cried weakly. She was a premature born orphan whose weight was under 1.5kg. To save her, we did a series of emergent aids. We put her in an isolette for warding and to keep her in normal temperature. Since she could not eat, we used a stomach pipe feeding milk to her. Initially, we fed her a ting portion, then increased the milk day by day. We also ranged her intravenous drip. We tried every way to make her receive enough nutrition and liquid. After 2-month aborative care, she turned healthier and could leave the isolette. She could eat through mouth and had strong sucking ability. Her countenance turned cuddy, weight increased. As her age increasing, we added her some snacks, such as cereals, soup, steamed egg and noodles. Now she drinks 200ml milk per time and 6 times per day. She is a good eater. Her relieving is normal. She gets up at 7:00, then takes a bath. At 8:30, she drinks some milk then takes a nap for about 1 hour. She also takes a 2-hour nap after breakfast. When she wakes up, she will eat some cookies. Before she goes to bed in the evening, she will eat some cereals. She likes to suck fingers when sleeping.

Now she is 8-month old, she has a ruddy and pretty face, seems very lovely. She will smile to people she familiar. She knows her name. When you say her name, she will smile. She can walk in the walker, play toys, and look at the adults. She likes musical and colorful toys. She is a little bit fussy. When she wakes up, she will cry, but after a while, she will smile and hold the caregiver’s coat. She is so cute and all caregivers love her, call her “little baby”. The caregivers all dote on her and take good care of her. Now she is in good health. She has got one cold in the past and been inoculated against necessary vaccines. She did a physical examination in Jiangyin People’s Hospital and all results were negative. Now her head size is 16.34 inches, chest size is 17.34 inches, height is 25.22 inches and weight is 17.6 lbs.
