Time scale of books

As the first book was published in 1930 the last in 1947,
One has to ask are the dates really important.
The characters do not age on the same scale otherwise presumably John would have been 29 in GN and probably married with his own little Walkers. Assuming he survived the War.
Also of course the readers in 1930 would have grown older and probally forgotten SA books by the time GN appeared.
Fortunately being found and loved by a new set of readers like myself
in 1950.
