While the 12 books were published over the period 1930-47, though there is a four-year break from PM (1943) to GN (1947). But the actual internal timeline, as established by Bill Wright is four years. Bridget has grown up in SW, seeming more like Roger in SA. John & Nancy would have been teenagers of about 16 in GN, though it would have been complicated to combine them as teenagers and the younger pre-teen S,A&Ds into one book! And perhaps going to single-sex boarding schools delayed things!

And while the first and last in the internal timeline - SA & GN - were published first and last, I don’t know if the books in between were published in the order that they were supposed to have happened. Like ARs writing, when he chose a chapter to write rather than writing a book from the first to the last chapter. He had an overall outline of the story and chapters, and could decide to write a short or a long chapter.
