Ah, yes, Prue, I agree with you over pursuing the tiny fascinating details - when these appear in the stories. What I fear people are doing now is subjecting to analysis things which do not appear in the stories at all! The Beckfoot water system is an example. Why not discuss what sort of tiles (if any) they had in the bathroom? What sort of wallpaper (if any) did Squashy's room at Atkinson's have? What football team did the railway porter support? (No, please don't all start discussing these!) As I said, where does it stop?

Peter Ceresole made an apt remark about trainspotting. He will be aware, I'm sure, that there is a downside to trainspotting. Nuff said. Back to the plumbing, folks . . .
