The Steven Spurrier I think of first (though he may be Stephen) is the wine merchant.

The wine merchant's name is spelt with a V, or at least was spelt that way in a caption on the Newsnight item. I noticed it specially, so that I could check whether the illustrator's name was spelt the same way.

Is the Leyland Steam Motor Company (see Mark D's post) what became the giant Leyland Motors, famed for its buses, and then (after government-assisted merger with BMC) British Leyland?
