I have just spent a week at Coniston. I can confirm the following:

Pauline Marshall is very much alive and well. She is well into her 80s now, but still as spirited as ever!

I see that Vicki Slowe is mentioned in a post. She is currently Curator of the Ruskin Museum at Coniston. I spoke to her for over an hour last Sunday, and she is extraordinarily well-informed as to all AR matters and connections in the Lakes. She is delightful to talk to, and I am sure she would certainly never make a professional statement 'as a joke'.

I visited the Dogs Home and can only echo the excellent posting by Robert Thompson recently. It certainly has not 'tumbled down yet', and looks good for years to come. However, there are a couple of slates near the chimney which are displaced and hanging by their nails - this ought to be attended to ere long. The little building is extremely atmospheric, particularly as 'Dick' and 'Dorothea' were in residence (courtesy of TARS). We took it in turns to be photographed as 'Jacky', leaning against the door, milk bottle in hand, 'not looking at all like going'..

Yesterday, I thought I had found 'High Topps', but that's enough from me. (I hope no one finds any of this offensive, but I suppose someone will!)
