Get your pan and sieve out Jock. There really is Gold in them thare hills.

Tarboard explored the Coniston Copper mines several times while you were having your long siesta. Any remaining sizeable deposits of ore are likely to be a very long way down and under water. The definitive source is the out-of-print Eric G Holland's Coniston Copper, A History, not to be confused with his Coniston Copper Mines - A field guide. The latter is essential reading if you are actually foolhardy enough to venture into the mines.

Eric Holland passed away in 2003. There is a short obitury here.

Now where were we? Oh yes, Holland mentions gold, silver, and the real Squashy Hat and Slater Bob.
