Horning to Harwich would be perfectly feasible as a day trip. The actual drive is some 2-3 hours.
York to Whitby would be a little shorter.
For Edinburgh to Inverness I would allow a whole day. Even if you don't need it for driving, there is plenty to look at on the way.
The snag with British roads is that even if thedistances are quite short, you can often get held up in traffic on all but the widest roads - and quite often on them too. And the authorities have taken to putting arbitrary speed limits on the open road at unpredictable spots.
