It doesn't strike me as that way, but then the D's are my favorite characters. I too am a rookie at camping, and have never sailed, so they can stand in for me in my confusion. (Stephen Maturin in Patrick O'Brian's work does the same) I admire both Dorothea's creativity, and Dick's scientific single-mindedness. After WH, my favorite book is PM. Favorites that both star the D's- concidence? I think not.

Perhaps my favorite Dick moment is in WH, after they have saved the sheep. He comes up with a plan, risks his life putting it through, and is successful, and what does he write in his notebook for the day? "Saw buzzard."

Dorothea's greatest moments are in Big Six- if not for her, George Owdon's crimes would have never been discovered.
