Ah silly me. I forgot that camp fire and primus cooks would be keen to conserve fuel and put the eggs into the cold water so that they cook as they are brought to the boil. I abandonded this method for home cooking years ago as the results were unreliable.
Could any Dick Callum out there tell me if, in theory at least, an egg would be cooked to the same amount during the process of bringing it to the boil or whether it would cook to various degrees depending on how quickly and or steadily it is brought to the boil?
