Jenny, I am not sure how many of us there are. Prue and Lynn post a lot. I read messages every other day or so, and post occasionally. Perhaps your example will encourage other women to stop lurking and to be more active. Maybe we should start a new thread - "Women on Tarboard, speak up!"

I too always found AR'S stories very real. There were so many useful details, in addition to the weather and of course, the wonderful descriptions of wherever the stories were set. Like many others have said on this group, I learned about sailing from the books and was able to just get in a boat and tack without problems. The details about campfires and cooking and even filling the kettle with the spout underwater, were useful as well as adding realism. AR could teach without ever preaching, and again, that was such a refreshing change from other children's authors whom I read when I was younger.
