Interesting idea....I think Peggy would be more her own person than the "Nancy-follower" that she is in the books. She does come more into her own in GN, when Nancy is seasick at first, and Peggy is blithely working alongside Susan to sort the stores & cook on the Primus in the tiny galley. She is given some lines that come from her point of view from time to time. I just finished another reading of Swallowdaie (perhaps my 20th or so?). I like her line, lying on the floorboards of Amazon while Roger & Titty take turns trying to steer without any waggles, and are bickering about who is distracting whom: "You're both wrong, really...You ought never to talk to the man at the wheel, and you've both been doing it." She shows her own knowledge, a underlying sense of humor, and definite leadership.
