I am not sure that todays children read so much as we used to.
There are so many other diversions, TV, Video games etc.
Some children I have spoken to equate reading with school work, so its considered a chore.
It also depends on the parents being readers and setting an example.
As to AR's works they could be considered old fashioned by some.
Its a pity that only a few were made into movies.
Possibly a promotion by the publishers could get them read, as of course Harry Potter was heavily promoted which got a lot of readers.
I doubt if it would happen unless Disney or someone rediscovered the stories and made a cute movie of them.
Maybe a Swallows and Amazons Video Game.
I fear it is left to us as parents or grandparents to promote interest.
and as we find with varying degrees of success.
