Perhaps "Alaska" had more trees than "Greenland", as their counterparts do. If they were inspired by the Klondike prospectors, or Jack London's works (wasn't one of them mentioned in WH?), a wooded area would be much more appropriate for Alaska, while the Greenland icecap would be "vegetation-free". This would suggest that the Igloo was (or could have been) in, or quite near, "Alaska". Alternatively, "Alaska" could have been on the western side of the Lake, which they were enjoined from visiting quite early on. (Kanchenjunga re-christened as Denali/Mt. McKinley?)
