On the main “North Polar Expedition” map in WH, High Greenland, Spitzbergen, and the Observatory/Signal Station above Dixon’s Farm are named. The map of “Eskimo Settlements in the Sub-Arctic” (Chapter 22; page 246 in the Puffin edition) also has the Igloo above Holly Howe in the middle of the Woods and like the Observatory just below High Greenland, where they rescued the cragfast sheep. The Igloo is not named on the main map, but it is visible in the Woods as a small circle with a vertical blip for the chimney.

Nancy mentions in the frantic semaphoring in Chapter 10 “MAKE WILDCAT SPITZBERGEN TRY ALASKA CROSS GREENLAND PEGGY KNOWS .... “. Later Dorothy (?) says “What about Alaska” and Peggy replies “Greenland’s better .... it’s the country up on the fells above the tarn ....We’ll do a crossing of Greenland tomorrow”.

So it is Greenland, then Spitzbergen by ice. After they get the “Fram” as a base, there is no talk of Alaska, and the training trips on the ice when it has frozen are to Cormorant Island or Cache Island.
