Andrew, I regret that I can't shed any further light on their meeting, (or how it was recorded), right now. I learned about it from a very reliable source, (Peter Willis), but I believe he may be currently visiting Rome. When I next speak to him I will ask for more information.

I often fondly imagine them meeting there when I visit West Mersea, and can picture them both very well mannered and smartly dressed exchanging views before hurrying off to catch the tide. A little romantic, I know, but I have pictures of them both up at my chart table, along with Dame Ellen (Patron Skipper of the Nancy Blackett Trust) and Admiral Lord Nelson.

It would be nice to know the circumstances of their meeting, and which of their many boats each owned at the time.
